Wood newels bring impact and unique design details to your project. Wood newel posts are stair posts that are turned on a lathe or made as a box (box newels). Each turned newel can be made with a square, octagon or round bottom block. We can create custom newels from your own design, duplicate, or create a one of a kind piece.

Turned Newels

Turned newels can be made in several classic styles. Each newel is precision milled and sanded by hand. Newels are posts that are the backbone of your balustrade. They ensure durability and beauty and can showcase your home in any style, whether contemporary, traditional, colonial, and many more. Add details to newels with one of many Oak Pointe milling options. Oak Pointe provides turned newels from industry standard widths of 3” and 3-1/2” to over 14”.

Box Newels

We can produce standard and custom box newels that highlight the start of your stairway. These can be produced in all of the standard species described above and can be made with floating panels or any custom component. All of our standard and custom box newels are handcrafted using locking miter joints and solid wood.

Post-to-Post/Over-the-Post Newels

Post-to-post newels have the handrail running between them. They are raised above the handrail, usually with a post top (decorative finial). over-the-post (pin top) newels have the railing running over the top of the newels with the help of rail fittings. For large pin top newels Oak Pointe can manufacture proportionately large fittings that will match the design. The newels can be custom, or they can include a design that coordinates with the baluster design.

Half Newel

These are newels that are made in pairs, and are used where the staircase railing comes to a wall.

Newel Drops

Newel drops are a nice touch when part or the entire bottom of the newel is exposed. These are decorative finials for the bottom of your box or turned newels.
